Laramie + Phoenix’s Romantic Blue Hour Engagement Session at Colorado’s Guanella Mountain Pass
This was my first time shooting at Guanella Pass. Laramie and Phoenix chose it as their location as Phoenix has spent a lot of his free time exploring the mountains of Guanella Pass throughout his life. I love when client’s choose a location that has meaning behind it to really bring more character to their photos.
What is blue hour?
Good ol’ Wikipedia defines blue hour as the period of twilight when the sun is at a significant depth below the horizon + the remaining sunlight takes on a blue shade.
To be completely honest with you, when I first started my photography journey back in 2018 I was afraid of this lighting as it’s much darker than the photographer’s favorite golden hour period. Come 2023 and blue hour is now my favorite lighting to photograph in.
Nothing is more beautiful and romantic than the even moody lighting. I always keep my couples 10 – 15 minutes past the sun setting below the horizon to capture some of my favorite portraits of their whole session.
