As a Northern Virginia maternity photographer, I’m most drawn to locations that offer both stunning views and a quiet environment. Bluemont Vineyards is tucked away in the hills just outside Leesburg, Virginia, and it’s the perfect blend of countryside charm and timeless beauty.
About Bluemont Vineyards
Located about an hour from Washington, DC, Bluemont Vineyards in Northern Virginia sits high above the Loudoun Valley, offering panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. It’s not just a favorite winery destination and wedding venue, but also a stunning backdrop for maternity sessions, engagements or “just because” portraits.
Between the vineyards, stone terraces and that soft golden-hour light that spills over the rolling hills, every corner photographs beautifully. The hydrangea bushes are hands down my favorite part of this location. They are full of color and texture that adds a romantic touch to any image.
Best Time for Hydrangeas
Speaking of … if you’re hoping for gorgeous hydrangea blooms, plan your maternity session, if possible, for early summer through early fall. The hydrangeas are a gorgeous white color until they start to change around early September as the cooler fall temps start to roll in.
I only book sessions on weekdays here as it is also a wedding venue. This makes it easier to have the space to yourself and enjoy a more relaxed session.
Photography Permit Details
It’s important to note that Bluemont Vineyards does require a photography permit in order to photograph on their property. The application process very easy and only $50; a small investment for such a stunning and *almost* private setting.
Tips for a Beautiful and Relaxed Maternity Session
Choose outfits that make you feel beautiful and comfortable. Flowy dresses photograph beautifully and allow for natural movement. They’re timeless and flattering for every stage of pregnancy.
The perfect time of day. 90 minutes prior to sunset gives that dreamy, soft light that feels warm and romantic.
Don’t stress the posing. My sessions are laid-back and guided with simple prompts so you can relax, move naturally, and just focus on each other.
