Weekday mornings are my secret weapon when it comes to photographing at the Jefferson Memorial (honestly any DC location). Not only is the light soft around the marble architecture, but there’s also a calmness that allows couples to relax and enjoy their session rather than stressing about all the tourists nearby.
This early September morning with Rachel & Brady couldn’t have been more perfect and peaceful. Having the memorial almost completely to ourselves, we photographed all possible angles to capture all of the unmistakable DC charm. From the grand steps, to the curved walkways framed by the tall iconic columns to the Washington Monument peeking through in the distance.

Weekends in DC can get busy quickly even early in the morning. Opting for a weekday gives you the best chance of having the space to yourselves and keeping the focus on your connection rather than navigating tourists.
3. Plan for a Bit of Walking
You’ll want to plan for about a 10-minute walk from your parking spot to the steps of the memorial. It’s an easy stroll, but comfortable shoes make all the difference.
4. Outfit Coordination Matters
Soft, neutral tones always photograph beautifully here; think creams, tans, or pale blues. The light marble of the Jefferson Memorial reflects those colors perfectly and gives your photos a timeless, elegant feel.
5. Expect a Little Wind
Being right by the water means there’s often a light breeze. It adds movement to your photos (and makes for those cinematic dress and hair moments), but it’s good to keep in mind when styling your look! Nonperfection is perfection! 😉
