Bon Air Rose Garden in Arlington, Virginia, is one of my favorite hidden gems for sessions. Every corner of the garden feels romantic filled with various colors of roses that perfectly complement the emotion of maternity photos.
The Magic of Bon Air Rose Garden
The roses at Bon Air Rose Garden are in bloom from mid-May through mid-October. Believe it or not but this gorgeous maternity session took place on October 1st! Even the late-season bloom is just a romantic and whimsical as spring and summer blooms.
Another thing I absolutely love about the garden is that it feels tucked away from the busyness the DMV area while still being right in the heart of the city and easily accessible.
My Approach to Maternity Photography
When I photograph maternity sessions, my focus is always on emotion over posing. I want every image to feel soft, effortless and capturing the beauty of your baby bump. That means gentle direction with still moments to be able to capture those Pinterest worthy shots.
Tips for a Making Your Maternity Session Romantic
Plan for golden hour.
Abbi & Connor’s session took place the last hour prior to sunset and the sun was already tucked behind the trees. You can definitely come up to 2 hours prior to sunset for a beautiful glow.
Keep your wardrobe simple and soft.
Flowy fabrics, neutral tones and natural textures always photograph beautifully in a garden setting with varying floral colors. You want your outfit to complement the setting, not compete with it.
Focus on connection.
Hold your bump, move a little vs standing still, breathe and trust that I’ll guide you through every moment. I pinky promise if anything looks awkward I will guide you out of it. So enjoy being in the moment and let me bring the magic to life!
